California Proposition 65, the 1986 Drinking Water Safety and Toxic Substances Enforcement Act, was issued in November 1986 to protect California residents and the state's drinking water sources so that the water source is not known to cause A substance that is harmful to cancer, birth defects or other reproductive development, and informs residents in the event of such a substance.
California Proposition 65 is responsible for regulating chemicals known to California that may cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. More than 700 chemicals are currently listed as regulated for this class of chemicals.
According to the regulations, the list of chemicals is revised and reprinted at least once a year.
Document No. 65 on Glassware and Ceramics Requirements The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, Document 65, requires warnings on any product in California that emits carcinogenic or regenerative chemicals. Lead and cadmium are included in the listed chemicals.
The court made a new trial decision on a recent lawsuit filed in Document 65, which determined that the defendant had to recreate glassware and ceramics containing lead and cadmium in exterior decorations. Products that meet the remanufacturing criteria can be sold in California without the warnings required by Document 65.
Products include:
· Glass and ceramics for storage or storage of food or beverages
· Non-food or beverage glass and ceramic products (commodity)
Exterior decoration refers to the graphics, design and production of the exterior surface of the product. Exterior finishes, including designs that extend to the edge zone, can only be used with materials that meet the remanufacturing standards for lead and cadmium. Children's products must meet a series of more stringent remanufacturing standards.
For products that do not meet the remanufacturing criteria, the product is marked with a warning required by Document 65.
Listed below is a consensus guideline for warning signs for glassware and ceramicware.
All children's products:
Exterior finishes, including the edge area, can only be used with decorative materials containing less than 0.06 lead and 0.48 cadmium.
Food/beverage products (edge-decorated) exterior finishes, including the edge area, can only be used with decorative materials containing less than 0.06 lead and 0.48 cadmium.
All exterior finishes that extend to the edge area can only be used with decorative materials that have no detectable lead or cadmium (≤ 0.02% lead, ≤ 0.08% cadmium).
Non-food/beverage products:
When performing the wiping test (National Institutes of Health Test Method No. 9100), the lead of the exterior decoration must be less than 1.0 μg or the cadmium should be less than 8.0 μg. Or exterior trim, including the edge area, can only use decorative materials containing less than 0.06 lead and 0.48 cadmium. Or when performing a wiping test (National Institutes of Health Test Method No. 9100), all decorative parts of the surface must contain less than 4.0 μg of lead or 32.0 μg of cadmium.
